    1. I loved this book, and not just because it's set in the Adirondacks. It's the story of two girls, who, though unrelated, grow up as sisters. Eleanor is the daughter of a rich, politically powerful family who own one of the Adirondacks Great Camps. Lily, 5 years younger, is the daughter of the guide and cook at that camp. Both girls lose their parents on one icy night, and their lives change forever. Eleanor grows up to be a tireless worker for peace, through the Episcopal Church and the UN. Lily [...]

    2. "The Truth and Legend of Lily Martindale" is the story of a woman's childhood losses surfacing in middle age as she has to finally face her past if she wants to move forward. The novel has a delicately braided timeline, tracing Lily's childhood and young adult years even as her modern-day drama builds toward resolution or death. The description is vivid and nostalgic, especially for those who know the quiet of mountains in the winter.

    3. As someone who has lived in New York's Adirondack Park, I feel the author accurately captured the scenic beauty, ambiance and inherent spirit of Adirondackers. The plot is compelling with interesting twists along the way which juxtaposition the present within the framework of the past. The reader will also encounter subtle symbolism throughout this novel's pages. Schwartz, the raven, was my favorite character.

    4. Two young girls are orphaned when their parents perish in a plane crash in the Adirondacks. One is wealthy, the other the caretaker's daughter who was practically raised alongside her friend. Eventually after life under the lights in NYC, the caretaker's daughter returns to the Adirondacks to become caretaker herself, living a hermits life for a decade.

    5. I loved the beautiful descriptions in this novel - I really think Shartle captured the feel of the Adirondacks. I love the little snippets of local history and the overall feel of this book. Very interesting read!
