    1. Mary Ellen Bramwell has a real knack for storytelling. She pulls the reader into the fold and never lets go. The characters are well-developed and entertaining. Brea Cass is a young woman with brains who meets and falls in love with Paul. When she’s awoken in the middle of the night and learns her husband has been shot and killed during a robbery, she’s shocked. As she begins take in the idea of his death, she realizes that something seems amiss by the way Paul died. As Brea begins to uncove [...]

    2. It took about 70 pages to get to the crux of the story - which was that something was amiss in the main character's husband's death. The story is engaging enough that I wanted to continue. The character group was small enough to sufficiently develop and each was unique enough to the story to make it interesting. It wasn't so much a "who done it?" as "there's some loose ends to tie up about this guy's life." The author did a good job tying up those loose ends, especially using the name of the boo [...]

    3. One of the best books I have read this year. Usually I can figure out what is going on before it is revealed in the book. This time I was kept in the dark until the author revealed all the answers. I love romance but through in mystery and faith based it becomes a perfect book for me. I highly recommend this book.

    4. I liked The Apple of My Eye by Mary Ellen Bramwell and would recommend it to others to read. This book delves into the mind of Brea Cass, a woman forced to deal with the sudden, violent death of her husband. Immediately after his murder, he was portrayed as a hero, but when certain things don’t add up Brea comes to realize that perhaps her husband may not have been the man she thought he was. Gradually, surrounded by a second-to-none support network, she does her own detective work as she unco [...]

    5. Mary Ellen Bramwell is a fellow Black Rose Writing author and we exchanged books. I rate The Apple of My Eye as a five star well written book about a young married woman with a baby who loses her husband through a tragic killing. She then begins to have doubts about their marriage when she discovers things she had not known about him before and begins to investigate.Although I usually do not read mystery type book, I had trouble putting Mary's book down. It flows well, has intrigue that keeps yo [...]

    6. Brea Cass is a new widow. Her husband, Paul, had just died. Clinging on to her baby son to keep herself sane, Brea decides that she needs to face up to her situation which leads her to figuring out what exactly happened to her husband in the minutes before he was shot during a robbery in a corner store. She soon realises that she has literally opened a Pandoras box of secrets. Did she even know her husband. Her almost perfect husband, was he hiding something from her. The story progresses with fl [...]

    7. Story didn't ring true The story was kind of interesting, but a lot of the details were pretty cheesy. The dialogue was dated and not very conversational - no one talks like that! The main character wasn't very believable. She couldn't have been more than 25, but acted at least 15 years her age. She married her husband right after her freshman year in college after knowing him less than a year, and her parents were thrilled! Doesn't seem like something that would happen in present day, not in th [...]

    8. It is an excellent story about a woman who deals with the loss of her husband and the unsettling truths that emerge subsequently around his tragic death. Well told and moving, it is filled with characters that are real-to-life and likeable. It also proves you don't have to use profanity, sex, or violence to tell a good story. The author has remarkable insight, and considerable talent, in describing and, more importantly, in conveying grief. Highly recommended.

    9. This book sucked me in right away. It definitely has some surprises I was not expecting. The love story was irresistible.

    10. The story pulled me in from the very beginning. Couldn't put it down as I felt I was sharing Brea's journey. Well done.

    11. Good story.Story is told well, lots of twists and turns. Makes you think about how well you know people, and who constitutes family.

    12. A modern day story of love found and lost at an early age. A young mother loses her husband in what appears to be very tragic circumstances. After going through her stages of grief she begins to investigate and is truly disturbed and disappointed in what she discovers. But there is a bright side which comes forth and will leave the reader feeling both good and sad. The story line is believable and most of us will know someone who would fit the description of her husband.I have given this book 4 [...]

    13. The Apple of My Eye (2014) by Mary Ellen Bramwell enthused me once again with the fun and childlike eagerness found in reading mysteries—much like when I first read The Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew or Agatha Christie. When the protagonist, Brea, falls in love with and later weds Paul Cass, the story is only just beginning when Paul is shot and killed in a robbery, leaving Brea with more questions and grief than she is comfortable with. But it is Bramwell’s handling of the characters and their em [...]

    14. While the book started out interesting it left a lotSpoiler alert I can not under stand how Brea got to Paul being part of the robbery. Just because he suggested she cheat on an assignment doesn't mean that would make him turn to robbery. Yes it is both stealing but after that the book lost me as it didn't make sense. I won't be reading any of the author's other books

    15. When Brea Cass, a young mother, is awakened in the night by the news that her loving husband, Paul, has been shot during a robbery, she is stunned. When she finally emerges from dealing with her loss, it dawns on her that something is amiss in the way her husband died.

    16. In Mary Ellen Bramwell’s The Apple of My Eye, Brea Cass leads an idyllic life until her husband is killed in a convenience store robbery. It takes her some time to come to terms with the fact that Paul, her husband, is gone, she begins questioning the official story of what happened that night. The more she probes, the more discrepancies she uncovers, which only leads to more questions, the biggest of which is: was Paul truly an innocent in the event that lead to his untimely death?I was hooke [...]

    17. This was a nice cross between a mystery, romance, contemporary fiction- all rolled into one. A quick read (around 250 pages), with a great story. Had some nice twist and turns. This was free on amazon when I got it. I think it's still free on amazon now, at that price I'd tell anyone who likes mystery to read it. The Apple of My Eye follows Brea Cass, whose husband Paul, has just died in a grocery store murder. As she digs deeper into how he was murdered, she unfolds a part of Paul's life she di [...]

    18. Ms. Bramwell’s book is delightful! Protagonist Brea Cass’s life is near perfect…a supportive and loving husband and a new baby, but her world is shattered when her husband is murdered. Brea grieves but survives with the help of her parents and friends, really good friends of the type we all long for. Ms. Bramwell captures a widow’s deep grief and her slow recovery from tragedy, a healing process interrupted by her husband’s secrets.Brea balances her mourning with her need to understand [...]

    19. Is The Apple of My Eye a romance? Yes, but not the ordinary kind. Paul Cass, Brea’s husband and love interest, is murdered shortly after the novel begins. Paranormal romance? Absolutely not. There is no trace of the paranormal in Mary Ellen Bramwell’s novel. Paul is dead and only seen in flash backs. Is The Apple of My Eye a mystery? Yes. In more ways than one. Brea is willing to let he police find her husband’s killer. However, as she reviews what happened, she realizes he was murdered in [...]

    20. This was a quick read, but not a satisfying one. My main objection occurs early on. A young woman named Brea is awakened only to remember that her husband, Paul, was killed during a robbery. What was he doing at the small store in the middle of the night, why was he shot, etc.? She realizes she didn't know him. Of course she didn't. She met him her first year of college and dropped out to marry him knowing very little about him. What I don't believe is that Brea's parents would welcome this man [...]

    21. Mary Ellen Bramwell delivers with this engaging story, combining true love and mystery with a delicate touch. All of her characters are well drawn, particularly the young couple Paul and Brea who discover each other and the possibility of long term happiness. But how well can you know someone? That’s one of the central questions to this story. Bramwell does an excellent job, raising all the questions and doubts that one might have when their peaceful idyllic life is disrupted. Her portrayal of [...]

    22. This is not your typical mystery, or romance, but has some of each included. Brea is woken in the night with the news that her husband has been killed in a robbery of a small grocery while saving another customer´s life. When the young mother finally comes up for air from her grief, it occurs to her that there was no reason he would be in the store in the night, when he was supposed to be working the night shift at a hotel. Checking in with the hotel staff she discovers he had been on a leave o [...]

    23. I'm not really sure why I only gave this book 4 stars. It was well-written, the story compelling. I think what keeps me from totally embracing the book were the supporting players. The main characters were Brea and Paul though the story begins with Brea's learning Paul had been murdered during a convenience store robbery. Both Brea (story told from her POV) and, to a certain extent, Paul (through flashbacks) came across as real human beings with good points and "normal" flaws. But the other char [...]

    24. This is the tale of Brea and Paul, through their college romance, marriage, birth of their son, Paul's surprising death, and Brea's grief. That part was a little too sweet for me, but luckily there's more: Brea discovers Paul has secrets, and her investigations kept me interested in reading. The basic plot and messages about grief are good, and some scenes are keenly observed. However, I would recommend editing of repetitious thoughts and saccharine scenes. Also, the families are too perfect: How [...]

    25. Slow readingBrea's whole life turns upside down when she gets a phone call that her husband has been shot in the middle of the night this causes her to unravel many secrets she never knew about This book sounds amazing and it could have been but for me it just wasn't, somewhere in the middle I found myself really not caring about the husband at all, and as for the main character she had no dept I love a good thriller or mystery but this just took way too long I was more than half way in when stu [...]

    26. Worth the timeI wasn't sure at the start I'd like this book but it grew on me. Some of the characters seemed almost too perfect, like Martha who always had the right thing to say or do at the right time. But, I was intrigued by Paul's character and the development of his story throughout the book. The love of family and the importance of forgiveness make this book a compelling read. Overall, I can say I appreciated the story more after I had read it in its entirety and I'm glad I didn't stop rea [...]

    27. "The Apple of My Eye" is Mary Ellen Bramwell's first Novel. She did a good job with this mystery/romance story. It's a difficult combination to pull off, but Bramwell was able to create an interesting story with a fair amount of tension and mystery, and a hint of romance.Bramwell shows promise. She has a keen eye for interesting detail in her description. She created likable/ realistic characters. The 'who-dunnit' aspect of the story was well-conceived.There were places that the pacing was off, [...]

    28. A beautiful storyI just loved this book. Somehow it had gotten buried in my library and I had no idea what it was about. Started out as a sweet first love story but then after a tragic event, developed a bit of mystery that surprised me. I finished in two days as I had the time stay with it and so enjoyed. If you enjoy clean writing with no unnecessary language, you will, too.The editing is good typos or grammatical errors. Reads easily and flows nicely.I have already looked for more books from [...]

    29. Apple pie,,in the sky.I , at first thought it was just another romantic story,,of breaking up,,getting back together. But I was intrigued by Brea,,her way of not wanting to let others know how intelligent she was,,and her meeting with Paul.at seemed mysteriousI felt from the first that there was something hidden about him,,a wife,,familyBut although it is as complete surprise,,when their relationship grew,,a wedding,a baby,,then I had to finish,,as I just knew there was something,, suspicious,,I [...]
