    1. 2.5 The first thing that struck me was that the illustrations were muddled and not clear. The pages were so dark it was hard to pick things out. I know it was at night, and that should have made the lights stand out, but I also noticed that some of the Christmas lights didn't really look like lights. 2. As soon as I got to the first page, I was like whoa these paintings are dark and heavy. I’ve never seen illustrations quite like these. The lamp post was a little misshapen. It was also too small for the post it was on. The page with the car driving down the road, and the moon in the sky is pretty. I love the glimpse of the Christmas tree. 3. This was the last book I read to my tutoring students, and I am going to miss them both so much. It's remarkable how bonded you can become to children, even after a short period of time together. Anyway, the Christmas story was decent, but nothing blow-you-over amazing. As I read, I kept thinking how much more impactful it would have been if the various light shows depicted throughout the book had been actual photographs, embedded into the otherwise drawn illustrations.

    4. I used this as part of a preschool lesson about lights. The illustrations are very pretty and magical, and we made a fun craft to go along with it. For my full review: sunlitpages/2013/
