      Glyn Harper is Professor of War Studies at Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand He is now General Editor of the Centenary History of New Zealand and the First World War A former teacher, he joined the Australian Army in 1988 and after eight years transferred to the New Zealand Army, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel Glyn was the army s official historian for the deployment to East Timor and is the author of numerous history books.

Three- and - a - half stars.Reads like a collection of magazine articles thrown together.Also, Harper's style is not always up to the task of relaying some very compelling material.The book is at its best when the first person accounts are quoted and then discussed.What is interesting is that NZ Galipoli is celebrated; even though it was a disaster. Harper has suggested that we could (as the Canadian’s do) commemorate a battle where some measure of success is achieved.So very expensive in hard [...]



    2. Excellent book, one of the few non-fiction books that I read cover-to-cover. Gives a great account of some of the most important battles faced by New Zealanders.
