    1. I first encountered Mr. Quist's work online, when I read "The Ghosts of Takahiro Okyo,” on the Hunger Mountain website. It's a breathtaking story, and it comes as no surprise that it was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. I simply had to read more of his work, then asked my husband to gift me Mr. Quist's short story collection "Let Me Make You a Sandwich" for my birthday. It did not disappoint. 2. I don't read much fiction, but the first two stories of this collection made it clear to me Quist knows what he's doing. 3. Quist's debut collection of short stories offers readers a taste of a little bit of everything--loss, revenge, escape, humor, and a candid eye for poignant moments in our everyday world--with fresh prose and structure. I especially recommend "If You Should Fall Off the Earth" and "Lesser Gods."
